MENSANS' PETS

(Last Updated March 8, 2005)

Learn About Mensa

Produced by Jariyaporn "Pinky" Uttayaya

Animals of all shapes and sizes have become companions to many people of the MENSA society --- from ordinary pets from dogs to cats and even your unusual pets, like the geoduck. Check out these MENSA PETS and see why people of the MENSA society think it's a smart idea to have them around and why they love their pets.

In Memorium

Rhodes, the feline friend of Daniel Gilmore from Mensa of Western Washington, passed away earlier this year after battling a feline form of immune deficiency. Daniel remembers his pet as a "scholarly" type (thus his name). Rhodes

Sadie is 5 1/2 years old. She loves sleeping on the various book piles around the house. She is a member of the Dayton Area Mensa chapter of American Mensa.

Kasha is a five-year-old domestic longhaired cat that is part Angora and Lemur. She is the newest member of the Western Mass/CT MENSA Chapter and shows great skills with math puzzles. She loves her Tostitos and salsa and is a great companion and protector.

Oreo is a black and white Domestic Shorthair. He is named after his favorite cookies...Oreos.

At eight years old, he just loves to relax, either with his cookies or in warm areas like the sun or the computer.
Oreo loves his sweets! He knew exactly what he wanted at the store.
Here he is trying to fit into his Krispy Kreme Doughnuts hat. Not exactly the traditional way to do it, but he looks pretty satisfied and content.

Wentworth is not your ordinary type pet like a dog or cat. He is a geoduck!

Geoducks are one of the largest burrowing clams in the world... so large that they cannot completely fit into the shell. They weigh about two pounds and can live as long as 100 years! The age is determined by the growth rings on the shell. Wentworth is mid-age and still has many years to go.

He feeds on phytoplankton, zooplankton, algae, bacteria, detritus and "Geoduck Chow" by filtering the food particles from the water with his gills.
Wentworth is a nice companion. But geoducks, in general, are not known for forming any close emotional ties. http://www.mazepath.com/uncleal/geoduck.jpg

Ginger and Fred are two loving Shih-Tzu parents. They just had a litter of seven puppies, five boys and two girls, last September. All puppies were adopted into new homes within a couple of months of being born. During the first month, Ginger and Fred were very dedicated and loving towards their newborn pups. They would always play and take care of each one of them. Now that each puppy has a new home, Ginger and Fred misses their young ones. http://homepages.msn.com/RightWay/dixie_rose

Miss Genessee, also known as Genny, is a very fortunate Saint Bernard . She has been through a long road to recovery and now is a happy and healthy dog. Find out more about her amazing recovery. http://homepages.go.com/~doug_p/genny.html

Searcy is a two year old Miniature Red Piebald Dachshund from Crossgates. Both Searcy and his owner Karen Felder are discovering new ways to enjoy the "Dog Days of Summer". They are members of the Brandon Agility Running K-9. s Club (BARK) in Brandon, Mississippi. They are working in the initial phases of agility training. It is hard and tiresome work for the both of them but they have lots of fun and Searcy is an excellent candidate for agility because of his way to anticipate behavior sequences and commands.

Teddy is a one year old Exotic Shorthair whose home is in Orange County, CA. He loves to play on the computer so much that he even has his own e-mail address at litterator@home.com

Daisy is a twelve-year-old dog of uncertain parentage. She was adopted from the Humane Society. She is a very intelligent dog and understands more than her owners expected. She knows when food will be coming by the sound of the timer on "Pavlov" the microwave. She also hounds the mailman every morning until he gives her a biscuit treat. Daisy loves to play around and have fun with her family too. http://hometown.aol.com/ithildin67/DaisysDays.html
